Department of Physics is the oldest department among all science departments of this century old college. The department started its journey around 1921 under the University of Calcutta and the college was known as Wesleyan College at that time. Since then the department is the only destination of students of western part of West Bengal for quality physics learning. Now the department has two smart classrooms, one computer laboratory and five well organized practical laboratories. The department has an observatory named “Rev. Mitchell Observatory” established in 1903.
