Highlights of Bankura Christian College
Teaching-Learning:
1. Purchase of information, communication & ICT material to enhance the quality of teaching-learning process
2. Construction of new computer lab for newly introduced Computer ScienceProgramme Course under CBCS system of Bankura University
3. Departments ofPhysics, Geography andMathematics alongwith UGC-NRC Lab have upgraded with the addition of new computer set along with other requirements.
4. The college has published of about 250 books / book chapters/research papers/articles in addition to regular publication of two journalsWesleyan Journal of Research and Appropriations. In addition departmental wall magazines have been published regularly to promote the creativity of the students.
5. We also promoted eco-friendly practices in the campus involving students, hostel boarders, teachers and Non-teaching staff through activities like plantation, cleaning the campus and campaign against the use of plastics and avoiding tobacco and related products and through publication of a little magazine Eco-Focus.
6. Tracking the students as a center for providing inputs for their all-round development we encourage each sort of support activity to the students outside the class room. For encouraging them to consult books, journals, periodical as well as website to be equipped with the wealth of information to meet their curricular as well as extracurricular needs of students. Through this process we try to reach the slow learners and to improve their learning efficiency. Students are also motivated to attend seminar lecture to stimulate their interest in study.

8. Various online courses were introduced with like spoken tutorial and a number of online courses conducted through NPTEL to enhance the employability of students.

Repairing/renovation:
1. Principal’s Bungalow was renovatedcompletely with financial support from the project RUSA.
2. Each science lab was upgraded and maintained properly with support from CPE Fund to cater to the needs of the students.
3. Complete renovation along with roof treatment of both the old and new blocks of Brown Hostel along with the renovation of toilets, electric line, common room, kitchen and drainage system provides a fresh look to the Hostel and also a fresh environment to enjoy the Hostel life in its all colors
4. Partial renovation of roof, upgradation of facilities gives a new look to the Mitchell Hostel and it now more comfortable for the boarders
5. Construction of 1st floor of NiveditaHostel was completed to fulfill the demand of the girls students which now accommodates60 girls students.
6. Complete renovation of the Mother Teresa Hostel was carried out and facilities were extended in regard to Internet facility, common room facility and toilet facility.
7. Extension of college office was completed along with modern facilities for providing satisfactory service of students, teachers and higher authorities.
8. Construction of new toilet complex separately for girls and boys in college main building was completed. Renovation of old toilet complex in the basketball ground was completed.
9. Green practiceswere promoted byinstalling of solar panels, plantation and use of nano paint and nanocement.
10. A number of students achieved university rank and got admitted in institutes like JNU, BHU, IIT-Mumbai, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Delhi, in addition to Calcutta University, Burdwan University, Jadavpur University and Visva-Bharati.
Sports/NSS/NCC:
1. NSS and NCC units are also mention worthy in achieving their goals.
Miscellaneous:
1. To enhance the quality of education, research and extension activities, collaborationshave been made with Govt. Deptts, NGOs and Universities.
2. Empowerment of women students were emphasized and facilities were extended to maintain their hygiene and to empower themselves from unwanted problems through involving them in seminars, group discussions and direct talking.
3. Valuebased education, softskill development, spoken English, self-employment were given due importance to fulfill the all-round development of the students and to equipped them with the ability to be an ideal citizen.
4. Modern library withadequate reading space with facilities of Xerox, book searching through the aid of computers and internet facilities were arranged in the Library. More than 70000 books along with many important journals, magazines and periodicals now in the stock of Library to caters to the need for teachers and students. Some old hand written manuscripts were digitized for future used.
5. Establishing and running a language lab especially for PG students of Bengali and English is praiseworthy features of the college.
6. Attempts are also made to involve the alumni of the college for the greater interest of the students.
7. Supports were also provided to the poor but meritorious students.
8. Two new subjects namely Nutrition Hons and Computer Science were introduced in the college.
Regional Science and Technology Congress – Western Region
The first Regional Science & Technology Congress, 2016 of Western Region was Jointly organized by the Department of Science and Technology and Biotechnology, Govt. of West Bengal and Bankura Christian College on 7th – 8th November, 2016. The primary aim of the Science Congress is to provide a forum for Scientific Research especially for young scientists and to synergise new ideas with societal needs. Secondly, this is an attempt to popularise scientific outputs through the vernacular.
